Village Introduction

Cradled in the serene foothills of the Sobaeksan mountain range, Geumdangsil Village (located in Yongmun-myeon, Yecheon-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do) beautifully preserves the historic architecture and spiritual heritage of the Joseon Dynasty's Confucian scholar gentry class. This village is widely celebrated as one of the legendary "Sip-seung-ji"—the Ten Auspicious Sites nationwide chronicled in the ancient Korean prophetic book, Jeonggamrok, noted as a blessed sanctuary safe from war, famine, or natural disasters.

The name "Geumdangsil" originates from the village's unique landscape, which resembles a beautiful lotus flower floating peacefully on water. Early summer fills the village with a burst of lush, vibrant greenery, multiplying its historic romance. Within the village, centuries-old traditional houses (Hanok) coexist with prehistoric dolmens (ancient stone tombs) from the Bronze Age, offering a living timeline of Korean history. Most notably, the stone-wall pathways winding like a labyrinth between the houses are the longest of their kind in South Korea, offering an incredibly cozy and rustic rural aesthetic. Thanks to this timeless poetic beauty, the village has served as a primary filming location for various Korean films and television dramas, including "Please Teach Me English," "My Marriage Expedition," and "Once in a Summer".

Traditional Gochujang (Red Chili Paste) Making

A culinary workshop where you can handcraft authentic Korean red chili paste using fresh, wholesome agricultural products harvested directly from the local fields. Yongmunsa Temple

Located in Yongmun-myeon right near the village, this legendary temple was founded by the Great Master Duun during the ancient Silla Dynasty. The temple is home to an irreplaceable national treasure: the "Daejangjeon Hall and Yoonjangdae" of Yecheon Yongmunsa Temple. The Yoonjangdae is a beautiful, rotating wooden sutra cabinet built to store sacred Buddhist scriptures; turning it is traditionally believed to grant spiritual blessings. In early summer, the surrounding forests of the Sobaeksan mountain range turn into a deep, emerald green canopy, making the path up to the temple an incredible hiking trail. Choganjeong Pavilion
