Village Introduction

Oeam Folk Village: Autumn Flavors in a 500-Year-Old Village

Located at the foot of Seolhwasan Mountain in Asan, Oeam Folk Village is a traditional agricultural village with a history spanning more than 500 years. Unlike a recreated folk attraction, Oeam Folk Village remains a living village where traditional homes, agricultural land, and everyday rural life coexist.

The village is characterized by its winding stone-wall lanes, traditional thatched-roof and tiled-roof houses, fields, and historic residences. Walking through the village offers a glimpse into the architectural and agricultural traditions that have been preserved here over generations. Oeam Folk Village is also known for its well-preserved old houses and cultural heritage, as well as opportunities for traditional farming experiences and hanok stays.

Autumn brings another layer to the landscape. Golden rice fields, seasonal crops, changing foliage, and traditional thatched roofs come together to create a particularly atmospheric view of Korea's countryside. The harvest season also provides visitors with opportunities to experience Oeam Folk Village through the foods and farming traditions associated with this time of year.

Oeam Folk Village offers a variety of hands-on programs related to traditional crafts, food, and seasonal farming. Its autumn programs are especially closely connected to the harvest season. Activities include:

  • Yeot making – making traditional Korean malt candy

  • Tteokmechigi – pounding rice cakes with a traditional wooden mallet

  • Gochujang making – preparing Korean red chili paste

  • Dasik making – making traditional pressed tea cookies

Rather than simply tasting traditional foods, visitors can take part in the process themselves, making the experience feel more personal and giving them a closer look at how these foods are traditionally prepared.

Local Food: A Taste of Oeam Folk Village

A visit to Oeam Folk Village can easily continue at the traditional marketplace near the village entrance, where visitors can sit down to familiar Korean countryside dishes after exploring the stone-wall lanes.

One of the most popular choices is haemulpajeon, a savory pancake filled with seafood and green onions. Oeam Folk Village is known for Oeam Pajeon Sangjeon, a seafood pancake that is generously sized and cooked on a hot griddle, making it a satisfying stop after a walk through the village.

Alongside pajeon, visitors can also explore other traditional dishes available around the village marketplace. In autumn, a warm meal here makes a natural finish to a day spent wandering through the village in the cooler weather.

Autumn in Oeam Folk Village

Autumn brings out a different side of Oeam Folk Village. Rice fields turn golden before harvest, seasonal crops appear along the stone-wall lanes, and the village’s tiled and thatched roofs sit against changing foliage.

It is also one of the best times to experience Oeam Folk Village’s agricultural traditions firsthand. Sweet potato harvesting takes place from mid-September to late October, while bonfire programs featuring roasted sweet potatoes or chestnuts continue into winter.

One of the village’s major autumn events is the Rice Straw Cultural Festival (짚풀문화제), held each October. Centered on rice straw and traditional rural practices, the festival reflects the village’s long connection to farming culture and gives visitors another way to experience Oeam Folk Village beyond its historic scenery.
